we're about to begin
I, Balqis Khalila, am a film major student at the University of Central Florida. In this e-portfolio, completed as a part of ENC 1102 in Fall 2020 and presented as a film production scheme, I reflect on the development of my ability to apply my narrative voice to academic writing.

Dear Reader,

Being readily prepared with the proper concepts and tools is paramount to success in film production throughout each stage of the process. Those stages consist of pre-production, production, and post-production processes to ensure the intended story and message are delivered perfectly to the audience by the visual narrative. Film production is similar to writing, where there are several processes of creating ideas, writing, reflecting, and improving activity. Both have the same goal, which is to share a message and meaning with either the audience or reader. Thus, I will bring you along with me to reflect on my writing development in ENC 1102 through different parts of my writing processes. In this e-portfolio, I reflect on some key problems such as lack of concision, poor diction, unorganized structure, and frequent misuse of grammatical conventions within my best works in the development of my narrative voice through academic writing. I was slowly learning to master the basics of having well-developed writing that will be beneficial for my future practice. The reading responses, peer responses, and the professor's personal review of the pieces were critical to this development. With the metaphor of film production schemes, you will perceive and follow the stages of my improvement more clearly. There are several outcomes I managed to achieve across the course:
Outcome 1
"Students will be able to analyze and synthesize complex texts in ways that demonstrate an understanding of the situated and intertextual nature of writing and research."
ANALYZE!
Outcome 2
RESEARCH!
"Students will engage in a recursive, inquiry-based writing and research process that is meaningful for a specific community."
Outcome 3
"Students will be able to interpret their research findings in order to produce arguments that matter to specific communities by addressing real-world exigencies."
DEVELOP!
Outcome 4
"Students will examine their own conceptions of writing and research in response to their inquiry, reading, and writing throughout the course."
REFLECT!
All stages in producing a film are important; if only one small step can't be fulfilled, the end product will have that obvious mistake. The pre-production process is the beginning of a movie production where all the ideas and preparation for the foreground of the movie come into place. This represents the foundational stages of my writing development, where I analyzed and synthesized complex texts to demonstrate my comprehension of the situated and intertextual nature of writing and research. I chose to reflect on my first 1st Reading Response and my Annotated Bibliography to show how my writing has improved. I started with just analyzing and synthesizing one complex text and grew to effectively summarize several complex texts that focused on the authors' argument as well as the context in which it applied to a specific audience.
When the pre-production is successfully prepared, the process moves to production. This is where all the magic happens. This is the most complicated and time-consuming stage, but it will produce the best results if done thoroughly with effort. Here I started to develop my voice through intensive research methods. In this stage, I included the peer-reviewed Research Proposal as well as the final Research Proposal to show how I responded to critiques and shaped my academic voice in the proposal. I also included my Conference 2 results and my Final Scholarly Article to represent achievement of Outcome 3. This assignment clearly demonstrated my ability to use academic terms such as genre, discourse, and rhetorical situation and their relation to my own research area.
Lastly, post-production is where the filmmaker gets to start the finishing process. This consists of revising, reviewing, and editing. To demonstrate this stage as the achievement of Outcome 4, I chose to reflect on the process of creating my e-portfolio. I highlighted several new abilities that I learned throughout my works and writing process in ENC 1102.

Beyond learning the principles of writing related to a certain academic topic, this ENC 1102 course has helped me become a more adept writer about topics outside of my field. I learned to develop stronger, more persuasive arguments. The tools and lessons I have acquired through the writing assignments even helped me develop my narrative voice. I learned the proper way to use certain methods to make a claim and make meaning for my reader. Most importantly, frequently reflecting on every academic or narrative writing I create has become a new priority of mine since I discovered the benefit of reflection throughout this class.

Sincerely,
Balqis Khalila
