Pre-production is the planning, process, and execution of every task that must take place before production begins. It is where we have to prepare the elements needed to make a film based on the film’s screenplay. It includes understanding the screenplay’s concept, re-contextualizing it to translate the screenplay into a visual image, and getting deeper into the conversation between the text and ideas to create meaning. This ability to analyze and synthesize complex texts is crucial to have in my future practice, but I am glad to say that I learned this skill throughout my writing development in ENC 1102.
Here I present my first reading response to show my writing style at the beginning of this class. Initially, I didn’t have any problem in understanding the assigned text; rather, my confusion was about applying the idea that I got from the text, summarizing, and re-structuring the text with my own ideas to answer the given prompt. However, I handled my confusion by relating the text’s content with my own experience. But it made my writing seem too informal for academic writing because of the choices of diction used, which I highlighted in yellow. Thus, my homework was to explore more academic diction to enhance my narrative voice. Nonetheless, I started well by using the right MLA citation format throughout the text.
Next, I present my Annotated Bibliography to show my improvements and demonstrate my understanding of several situated research texts. I managed to analyzed six scholarly articles that shared the same background topic, which was about the importance of screenplay in movie production, and came up with a main conclusion that connected those articles, which I wrote in the introduction. Here, I explored more academic vocabulary that helped my paper have a more academic style. In the text's introduction and my explanation of some articles, I highlighted in blue the mentioned ideas to show how the articles related to one another. This is to show my improvement in analyzing, summarizing, and re-contextualizing texts with ideas that are present between texts to create a new academic voice.
