Production stage

Production is where the magic happens. The production process refers to the tasks that must be completed  during the filming. This includes tasks such as framing the scenes and developing the capture of raw footage, as well as employing and adapting to the visual narrative that has been created in the pre-production process. However, there are also some circumstances where things do not go as planned. This is where we have to interpret the situation based on evidence and assumptions with counterarguments to support solving any problems that arise. This whole process relates heavily to the idea of research writing in the academic field. We need a series of steps to produce well-developed writing. Thus, one of the experiences from my ENC 1102 class, where I engaged in an inquiry-based research project for a specific community, had a big impact on the development of my "production" ability.

Here I present the peer review response worksheet from my Research Proposal and Plan to show the insightful comments that my peers made. These were important to help me further develop my writing process. This structured peer review activity also helped me to better identify areas that lacked clarity or caused confusion in my writing. In this worksheet, I also include my significant comments for my peers that would help them improve their writing. This activity led me to engage with different types of writing and encouraged my self-reflexivity, fostering critical thinking skills.

Next, I present my final Research Proposal and Plan to show my responses to critiques and how I shaped my academic voice based on feedback. In the proposal, I explored many aspects of the writing process, starting with researching the questioned topic in the field that I was interested in, which was film production. Through extensive literature reviews, I framed a precise and clear research question that foregrounds my research and guides investigation for my scholarly article. Moreover, I developed and designed structured methods to establish a strong academic voice and argument for my scholarly article. Lastly, I created a timeline to maintain the progression of my writing process. This experience of creating, reviewing, and adapting was beneficial for me to further flexibly and iteratively work in a writing situation that is meaningful to a specific community.

In this section, I present the draft of my Research Article and my Conference 2 Memo, which includes my professor’s review of the article. This shows all the detailed input I received that was beneficial for the improvement of my article. Professor Thames helped me clarify the methods for the investigation, such as re-organizing my survey questions and limiting the initial ten survey respondents to only five respondents for each movie. She also gave me other important comments that can be seen in the document below. This conference helped me to be more detailed in delivering findings throughout my writing. This also helped me minimize last-minute drafting and cut down on some common lower-level writing errors.

Conference 2 Memo

  • Lastly, I present my final Research Article to show the development I made from the Conference Memo, which can be seen in the document to the left. Changes made from my previous draft are in red. Here, I clearly demonstrated my ability to use some academic terms such as “genre,” “discourse,” and “rhetorical situation” and their relation to my research area. This assignment empowered me to impart my discoveries and present my point of view about the topic so that the readers could benefit from exploring the new additions laid down in the writing. It also developed my writing skills to persuasively articulate my data with quotes and descriptive detail, creating a strong argument with the readers’ understanding in mind and showing evidence, assumptions, and counterarguments.
